Disability-specific Opportunities

What
Halberg Foundation - Hawke’s Bay Halberg Advisors work with young physically disabled people and their families to get them involved in sports and recreation. They also collaborate with schools, local sport and recreation organisations, facilities and clubs to raise awareness and capability for the provision of inclusive sports programmes and events.
Further services include: Halberg Inclusion Training: The Halberg Foundation offers a training course on modifying physical activities to include all New Zealanders in mainstream activities, events and programmes. The Inclusion Training programme enables schools and organisations to deliver physical activity to all, across various physical
abilities and skill sets. This training is currently being offered free of charge and can be delivered online or in person.
Halberg Activity Fund: The Halberg Activity Fund provides grants to physically disabled young Kiwis to enable them to participate in sport and recreation. Adapted equipment, support costs for school camps and lessons/coaching are typically applied for.

Special Olympics hosts three secondary schools’ events in the Hawke's Bay each year. While in the Bay, your RSC is also available to facilitate in-school P.E. sessions for your students. The content, composition, and length of these sessions is at the discretion of the school/students. They can also run professional development sessions for your staff to upskill and provide a toolkit for physical education delivery. Please get in touch to discuss further if this is of interest.

Across the Bay
What
Sensory yoga is set in a structured environment designed to reduce overstimulation and sensory "noise" through the lens of all eight senses. We scaffold skills to support the development of proprioception, coordination and gross motor movement with adaptive yoga postures, we invite breath awareness using props and games to make mindfulness techniques accessible, and we create space for guided relaxation to encourage interception and down-regulation for the nervous system.
When
We run Sensory Yoga classes during term-time and the school holidays at our Hastings Studio. In addition, there is the option to book one-on-one yoga sessions and our schools' programme is up and running across the Hawke's Bay.

What
Adaptive Whakauru Tahi was created when Leana realised the need and lack of services out there that provides quality adaptive fitness sessions for all people with disabilities both visible and invisible.
Having been a gym owner, and loving training people who had specific needs, the opportunity to create AWT as a passion project came about and here we are today thriving in our Hawke's Bay Community servicing many people with disabilities on a weekly basis. We do 1:1 training where classes are not suitable, home-based training, small group disability-specific group training and of course our community classes
