Hawke's Bay Secondary School Sports Awards
The Hawke's Bay Secondary School Sports Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements, excellence, and contributions of secondary school students to sports in Hawke’s Bay. This year, there are 13 Award categories.
Student Coach of the Year
This award honours a student coach who has demonstrated exceptional skills and dedication through personal commitment and development, effective coaching ability, and strong rapport with students. While results are a consideration, they are not a requirement. The award is open to coaches of both individuals and teams at any level. Preferred candidates may hold official coaching credentials in a specific sport or a generic coaching certificate, though this is not a necessity.
Student Official of the Year
This award recognises a student representative who has officiated at a high level, demonstrating exceptional skills and professionalism. It is open to students who excel as sports officials, regardless of the level at which they officiate.
Service to Hawke’s Bay Secondary Schools
This award honours an individual who has dedicated at least 10 years to secondary school sport and has been recognised as exceptional over an extended period. The recipient should have held significant positions or made substantial contributions within their sport. This award is open to any volunteer, coach, or sports administrator who has provided outstanding service to secondary school sport in Hawke’s Bay.
Team of the Year
This award celebrates a team that has demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the year. The team should have represented their school and the region with distinction, showcasing outstanding achievements. Additionally, the team must have acted as ambassadors for their sport and the region, contributing positively to both.
Coach of the Year
This award honours a coach who has made an outstanding contribution to coaching, achieving top-level results in their sport. The recipient should demonstrate an innovative approach to coaching, act as an ambassador for their sport, school, and the region, and exemplify Fair Play in all their endeavours.
Male/Female All-Rounder
Schools are invited to nominate a male and/or female athlete who excels as an all-rounder. This award recognises students who have achieved a high standard in at least two sports, each at a representative level for their school and potentially regional teams. Nominees must have represented their school in the sports for which they are nominated, unless a clearance has been given by the school Principal. Students who only participate in club sports and not their school are ineligible.
Disabled Athlete of the Year
This award is presented to an outstanding sportsperson who has excelled in their sport and represented the region with distinction. The nominee must have demonstrated exceptional performance at a regional level and made a significant contribution as an ambassador for both their sport and the region. Additionally, the nominee must have represented their school with distinction, unless clearance was granted by the school Principal.
Male/Female Sportsperson of the Year
This award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated excellence in their sport during the eligibility period and has been recognised at a national level. The nominee must have represented their school in the sport(s) for which they are nominated, unless the school Principal has granted clearance to play elsewhere. Students who participate only in club sports, and not for their school, are ineligible for nomination.
